Prof Dr M S S El Namaki

Prof El Namaki is a graduate of the universities of Brussels (Ph. D, 1977), Erasmus (MA, 1967) and MIT (Executive Program, 1982). Prof El Namaki teaches and consults on strategic thinking, entrepreneurship and international business. He is past founder and Dean of the Maastricht School of Management (MSM), Maastricht, The Netherlands (1984-2002). He is now Dean of the VU School of Management, Switzerland. Prof El Namaki has developed and introduced management degree programs (MBA, EMBA, DBA and Ph. D) at institutions in the Netherlands, China, Egypt, Brazil, Poland, Kazakhstan, Syria, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, among others.

Prof El Namaki taught globally at as recognized institutions as MSM (Maastricht), Kellogg (Chicago), Jiao Tong University (Shanghai), Beijing University (Beijing), AIT (Bangkok), Helsinki School of Economics (Helsinki), Sheffield University (Sheffield) and several others. Prof El Namaki assumed executive positions within Philips (Eindhoven), McKinsey (London and Dar es Salaam) and Time Inc. (Amsterdam). Prof El Namaki consulted and delivered executive seminars World-wide, and his clients included key MNC’s and landmark national corporations as China Pacific Insurance Corporation CPIC (Shanghai) and Abraaj (United Arab Emirates). Prof El Namaki did long and short-term consultancy missions for the European Union (EU), The World Bank and The Netherlands government. Countries covered by these missions included, among others China, Thailand and Kazakhstan.

Prof El Namaki published 7 books and more than 100 articles. His articles on Vision and Propensity to Enterprise are ‘classic’ teaching material in MBA and DBA programs world-wide. Prof El Namaki’s books include “Strategy and Entrepreneurship in Arab Countries” (Macmillan, 2008) and “Strategic thinking for turbulent times” (Macmillan, 2014). His writings include the prize-winning “Does the thinking of yesterday’s management gurus imperils today’s companies?”

Prof El Namaki’s more recent writings deal with the strategic management implications of Artificial Intelligence. These include “Systems approach to Artificial Intelligence” and “How Companies are Applying AI to the Business Strategy Formulation”. A book on “The managerial implications of Artificial Intelligence” will be completed by early 2020.

Prof El Namaki received several government awards, including a distinction award from the Government of Malaysia (2016) and the “China Friendship Award” from the Government of the People Republic of China (2018).
