Professor Chandan Sarkar
Chairman, Research and Empowerment Organization (REO)Prof. Chandan Kumar Sarkar (PhD Fellow) is a distinguished economist, academic, and human rights advocate with a deep commitment to global development, education, and social justice. He currently serves as an Associate Professor of Economics at IUBAT, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, bringing with him more than two decades of experience in teaching, research, and policy advocacy.
Prof. Sarkar’s academic background is both diverse and rigorous. He holds an MSc in Econometrics and Statistics from the University of Calcutta, India, and a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is presently pursuing a PhD in Economics, further strengthening his scholarly and research credentials. A prolific researcher and author, Prof. Sarkar has published 15 national and international research papers and has co-authored a book on private sector health services in Bangladesh with Professor Dr. Abul Barkat. His research interests span microeconomics, macroeconomics, environmental economics, and human rights, reflecting his strong engagement with contemporary global and developmental challenges. He has presented his research at several prestigious international platforms, including the United Nations in Switzerland, the European Union Parliament, and academic conferences across Asia and Europe.
Beyond academia, Prof. Sarkar is a prominent human rights activist. As Chairman of the Research and Empowerment Organization (REO), he actively champions human rights, religious harmony, women’s empowerment, and sustainable development, with a particular focus on Bangladesh and South Asia. His advocacy work includes defending the rights of marginalized Hindu communities and indigenous populations, earning him recognition as a strong and credible voice for the voiceless.
Prof. Sarkar has played a leading role in organizing and participating in international seminars and maintains close collaborations with global organizations such as Global Human Rights Defence (GHRD), The Netherlands, where he also serves as a Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York. His work exemplifies a rare and impactful synergy between academic scholarship and grassroots activism.
