Prof (Dr) Chris Bellamy
Professor Emeritus of Maritime Security at the University of Greenwich and Honorary Fellow of the Centre for Business and Economic Research UKChris Bellamy is Professor Emeritus of Maritime Security at the University of Greenwich and Honorary Fellow of the Centre for Business and Economic Research UK, the organisers of this conference. He is Editor-in-Chief of The International Journal of Maritime Crime and Security published by CBERUK since February 2020. In 2018 he was a Visiting Fellow in the Changing Character of War Programme at Pembroke College, Oxford. He served as an officer in the Royal Artillery and as a civil servant in the UK Ministry of Defence and from 1990 to 1997was Defence Correspondent of the London Independent newspaper, In this capacity he saw war in the Gulf in 1991, in Bosnia between 1991 and 1996 and in Chechnya in 1995. In 2010 he became Director of the Greenwich Maritime Institute. University of Greenwich. His numerous publications include being Consultant Editor for the Eastern Front of The Times Atlas of the Second World War (1989} and Associate Editor of The Oxford Companion to Military History (1991). His major work Absolute War :Soviet Russia in the Second World War (Pan Macmillan, Knopf 2007 ) won the 2008 Westminster Medal for Military Literature. His latest published work is two chapters in The Routledge Handbook of Soviet and Russian Military Studies, edited by Alexander Hill ( February 2025)
