Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal (Retired)
Former Vice-Chancellor, Bangladesh Maritime University, BangladeshRear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal joined Bangladesh Navy in 1981 and graduated from the Italian Naval Academy, Livorno in 1985. He was the Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Maritime University since 2018 and retired from the active service in January 2023. Admiral Khaled has undergone ‘Maritime Law Enforcement Course’ from Wollongong University, Australia in 1999. He is a proud alumnus of the National Defence College, Delhi and a Distinguished Fellow of the National Maritime Foundation, India. Rear Admiral Khaled closely worked with the MODUK several times for taking over warships from Royal Navy for Bangladesh Navy. His achievements include the successful completion of the regeneration project of Castle class warships in Portsmouth and Newcastle upon Tyne in 2010. He was the Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority in 2016-18, when he took numerous initiatives for port capacity building and port-led economic development. After his retirement, the Admiral is passing some useful time as the Chief Executive: Ports, Shipping & Economic Zones of the A K Khan & Company, a reputed conglomerate of Bangladesh.
Rear Admiral Khaled holds M Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Madras, India. As a maritime expert, Admiral has a passion for research in blue economy, ocean governance, maritime law and maritime security studies.
